On the Night You Were Born, written by Nancy Tillman won the 2005 Moms’ Choice Award for inspirational children’s book.
Nancy Tillman wrote, illustrated, and published this book herself. It’s exciting to see this. However, it’s not an easy thing to self-publish a book and have it do well. It takes some marketing skill. The Troy Messenger reports:
Tillman is a former advertising agency owner who has turned her award-winning advertising skills into a new career in greeting card and children’s book publishing.
When you’re able to do it, it’s a great thing, though. Tillman has sold 25,000 copies of her books since October. That’s a tidy little profit since she’s not sharing with a publishing company. All that and a lovely message for parents to give their soft, sweet new babies as they tuck them in for the night. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Well, I was going to ask when you sneaked this post onto your site, but saw the time stamp above. Heheheh–you do love these self-published success stories.
I do too–always think, More power to her, but it sure isn’t me.
You, on the other hand, Sally–maybe I should just wait until you get your publishing biz going and then you can publish my books, too.

yeah, yeah, yeah, I’ve always rooted for the underdog. I like to see the Davids take down the Goliaths of the world. I hate self-pubbed books that are poorly done. It actually offends me that people would throw together garbage and expect others to buy it. I also hate to see junk books, published by anyone, selling well simply because the writer/publisher knows how to create a buzz. But I love to see a really well done self-pubbed book winning awards. I like to see a good product gain recognition whether it’s self-pubbed or not. I am always happy to toot AMG’s horn or Barbour’s or Broadman and Holman’s, because they have been giving us great children’s books. I’m happy to rave about the package that Tommy Nelson gave to the The Door Within. Of course, I rave about these things, because children’s books are still the underdogs in the CBA. =0)
