I’m so overloaded.
I’m so sorry. I did pick a winner for the last contest. Since I was too busy to go around inviting people to the contest, and threatening, begging, and nagging my friends to write poems, and I only ended up with two entries which were both great and happened to be penned by cousins, I couldn’t’ decide on a winner. So I put you both in a hat and drew. Marie, you win.
Do you want me to mail the book to you or do you have someone else you want me to mail it to?
And now, about Twilight. I’ve been meaning to put these links in for a week or so. first the Guardian. If they hate Twilight we know it’s probably really a great book.
And then there are the Evangelicals who hate Harry Potter and a lot of other books and are sure the children reading these books will become wiccans or vampires.
I have to admit I’m skeptical when I read their reasoning. I think they are straining gnats and swallowing camels much of the time.
I haven’t read the Twilight books yet because the idea of vampire love is such a turn-off to me. But I have decided I must. I ordered the first from Amazon a couple of weeks ago and my son read it and loved it. I got ten pages in and had to put it down from boredom. But I will pick it up and finish it because I need to find out what the hype is about. And I need to see what my son just read and discuss it with him. I have no choice now.
I’ll let you know what I discover.

Okay, maybe girls who read Twilight won’t actually become vampires
but there are some serious issues I think a lot of people are ignoring, with the same excuse they always give: “it’s just fiction.” They can’t say the books aren’t influencing girls, though, right?
There are several angles open to dispute. If you pick the in-real-life-bad-boys-are-fun-until-they-drop-you-in-the-parking-lot-at-midnight angle, I thought this vid was funny:

I’ll get it out tomorrow, Marie.
Noel! your comment was in my spam file and I didn’t know it. that video is hysterical.
I read the book. I’ll do a review of Thursday, I hope.
I must admit, that video was pretty close to how I felt about the book. I am letting my kids read it but the price they pay is to listen to me lecture them for a half hour on why the book is bad, bad, bad. heh heh teachable moments.
Ok, so i am one of those girls who are in love with Edward Cullen but the thing is most of the book is about Bella’s feelings and i love it, the only problem is that the movie didn’t really bring in her feelings at all just focused on the BAD VAMPS. and anyways the BAD VAMPS wouldn’t have been after bella if they just ran to the car. it doesn’t make sense, just run with bella edward, run to the car, don’t stop and turn around read their minds, realize that they are trackers and run with bella, kk.
just saying that edward needs to know what he should have done better, but other than that fact, i love the books and the lion who fell in love with the lamb.
thx
