Do not mind what other's perceived about you.. what is important is that you know yourself very well and you don't harm anybody or anyone. If you think you are right, you have to fight for it and stand with it.

People judge people easily. Being frank and honest is not being hypocrite. Being independent is not being ignorant.
I hope many would realize this.

The best advice I ever received about men/dating/relationships came from a woman with 4 divorces and 1 murdered lover in her past (murdered by an ex-husband, I swear, I'm not making this up!) And yet, it was brilliant advice that I have never forgotten (and share widely). I won't type it here. The actual advice is not important. The point is, write your self-help book if you feel drawn to the topic and excited by the actual writing. You are an excellent writer with a strong, highly readable writing style. If you get into the project & absolutely hate writing the thing, take a step back & reassess. Most therapists are nutty, most marriage counsellors have been divorced, most debt counsellors are spending more than they make & most holy men have committed their fair share of sin.

My family is either highly enthusiastic and supportive of my writing or not interested at all. Same with my friends. No middle ground. I try to focus on the support I do get and express plenty of appreciation.

BTW - Right now I'm in a similar quandary. Really want to launch my new website/blog on Creativity Diet but feel like a complete fraud as my weight and habits are not where they need to be. Trying to figure out how to slant it as "I'm figuring it out as I go along. Come along for the journey" type of thing.

Vicky, thanks for the encouragement. And, yes, I was speaking of a self-help book, which is laughable because I can't even help myself so why would I be able to help others. But I will hang in there and keep plunking away at it, because I think it might fill a hole in the market.

Suzan, I'm reading and loving your stuff. And I'm not saying that to coddle you or make you feel loved and accepted.

Cathy...I love the beneficent Mr. Hall. At least the one you've painted for us. He's a good egg.

Sally, I think we're ALWAYS tougher on ourselves than other people (including family, most of the time) would be on us. So I'm sure that your non-fiction book will be quite good, because I knew that a. you sat around in your sweats till you had to get dressed (so what? Me, too!) and that b. you're a writer with an interesting voice.

And um, yeah, I wrote a humor column and the Beneficent Mr. Hall was the subject of many of those columns. Mostly, he laughed. But then again, he didn't always KNOW he was the subject of a column. :-)

(P.S. Thanks for dropping in at The Muffin! And GOOD luck on this non-fiction book. I'm already intrigued...)
